New Horizon Youth Centre

The New Horizon Youth Centre is based in the Kings Cross, Somers Town area of London.  It works with some very disadvantaged young people, many of whom have poor self-esteem, low confidence and a history of rejection, harm and abuse.  The coping mechanisms that some of these young people use, including drug and alcohol abuse, sexual vulnerability and self-harming, further isolate and demonise them, often resulting in more serious mental health problems.

The Centre sees up to 3,000 young people a year and is open seven days a week.  It provides a supportive environment, offering a range of services designed to help young people acquire the skills and knowledge that they need to improve their life chances and to move from adolescence into adulthood.  These include counselling services and advice and support with accommodation, with health and drugs issues, and with education, training and employment.   Street outreach work helps young people sleeping rough, female sex workers and other vulnerable women of all ages affected by substance misuse around the Kings Cross area.

The New Horizon Centre also provides young people with:

  • Sports and gym facilities
  • Music/DJ’ing activities and performance space
  • Cooking facilities
  • Art and Drama Workshops
  • Various free, practical services such as food, laundry, showers and a second hand clothes store.
